Description

ADACU DATABASE

SIGHTINGS: THERIZINOSAURUS CHELONIFORMIS, LARGE HERBIVOROUS THEROPOD

(See ALAN database for further information on this species)

INSTANCES: 1 incursion, multiple spotted during Gobi retrieval mission.

DISCOVERED: ABERDEEN INCURSION SITE, NEAR AUBREY ROAD IN ABERDEEN, WASHINGTON

LOCATION: GOBI DESERT, MONGOLIA

TIME PERIOD: CAMPANIAN OF THE LATE CRETACEOUS

FATALITIES/INJURIES: 1 adult mule deer(confirmed)

CONTAINMENT: Successfully returned through anomaly without injury.

BIOLOGY NOTES: Though interactions between the ADACU team and the Therizinosaurs were brief in both instances, it seems the very heavily-feathered creatures prefer the shade of riverside scrub forests and estuaries, as opposed to the open scrublands and desert areas of the Cretaceous Gobi. For creatures so scantily found in the fossil record, the dinosaurs seemed to be quite numerous. It can be assumed the area visited was from a time and area unrecorded or yet to be discovered in the Gobi fossil record.

Though Therizinosaur claws seem to be used just as scientists have previously speculated; to harvest foliage and defend against predators, it seems the creatures also occasionally use the claws to kill smaller animals and rake tree trunks with their blood. This is most likely a territorial behavior, but until the Aberdeen or a similar Gobi Anomaly opens, it's likely we will sadly never find out.
